Carousel now gives you the ability to use Android devices and Android Powered Smart TV’s to keep your audience informed and connected! Depending on your use-case and subscription, this Android Player application can be configured to be used either to display an Express Player Feed, or as a Licensed Media Player.

Device Compatibility

Android is the single largest operating system in the world and because of this, any number of Android devices can be used with the Carousel Cloud Player App. The type of content you show on the device will help determine the specs of the device you will need to use. We recommend choosing a commercial/professional line of devices in order to ensure that all Carousel features work as intended. For large deployments, we also recommend choosing a device line that utilizes a device management platform. Please work with your systems integrator or Carousel reseller to select devices for your customized signage solution. Android OS version 10+ is required.

The Carousel Cloud for Android app was extensively tested using the following partner devices:

Player Setup Instructions

Start by downloading and installing the Carousel Cloud Player application from the Google Play store. Depending on the device/management platform etc, this can be done either directly on the device or through the Google Play store using the Google account that you and the device are signed in using. Your signed-in devices should all be available in the installation drop-down menu as installation targets. Select the device(s) and install the application.

Some devices may require side-loading an APK file for installation. If this is the case for your device, simply Log in to to Carousel using a Site Admin account or one with the ability to Manage Players. Select the gear icon next to your username in the upper right, then select Configure > Players. Then Select Media Players > Player Setup > Android and use the link provided in step 5 to download the file. Then follow the device manufacturers steps to install.

Once the application has been installed, launch it on the device to reveal your activation code.

Next, login to Carousel using a Site Admin account or one with the ability to Manage Players. Select the gear icon next to your username in the upper right, then select Configure > Players. Then Select ‘Player Activation’

Enter in and submit your activation code. Now you’ll need to select whether you are configuring your device as a Media Player or an Express Player. If you are not sure which to use, check with your account administrator.

To configure as a Media Player, select the Media Player Button. You will then see the media player represented below where you can name it, select the content channel that it should display, and activate it. Once it has been activated, it will begin showing content and it’s settings can be managed from the Media Player Menu.

To configure as an Express Player, select the Express Player Button. You will then see the Express player represented below where you can select the Express Player feed that the device should subscribe to and Activate it. Once activated, it will begin displaying the feed contents.

Express player devices are not managed in the Carousel user interface so changing the feed it is subscribed to will require resetting the app on the device.
