Single app mode is a feature built into Apple devices that allows you to limit the device's functionality to a single app. This can be helpful if you want to restrict what the Apple device is allowed to do. These particular instructions are written for when you don’t have an Apple MDM (Jamf, Mosyle, Moki, etc.) to manage your Apple device settings and restrictions. If you do have an Apple MDM to manage your Apple devices, you’ll need to search for and deploy single app mode using your Apple MDM instead of doing it manually, as explained below.

The instructions shown below are a reference for how single app mode works but ultimately, this process is up to Apple to keep functional. As such, we have no control over the functionality of single app mode, and it is not something we can directly support you with if the process does not work as documented
The instructions shown below are explained using an Apple TV, but the same overall process will also work on iPads

Download and run Apple Configurator 2 from the App Store on your Mac

Connect the Apple TV to your computer using these steps from Apple, depending on the model:

Right-click and select 'Prepare...'

Select 'Manual Configuration' and check 'Supervise devices'

Select 'Do not enroll in MDM'

Select an existing organization or make a new one

Select any of the available configuration options you want to use when the Apple TV first boots

Now, the Apple TV will prepare and restart

The Apple TV will enter the first boot sequence, pair the remote, and continue

Log in to your Apple ID and other settings you set in step 7

Launch the App Store

Go to 'Search'

Search for and install the 'Carousel Cloud Player' app

Go back to the main menu and launch the Settings app

Go down to 'Apps'
Launch the Carousel Cloud Player app and then complete the activation process

Back in Apple Configurator 2, right-click, go to 'Advanced', and select 'Start Single App Mode...'

Select 'Carousel Cloud Player'

Configurator will turn on single app mode

The Apple TV will now be locked into the Carousel Cloud Player app

To disable single app mode, right-click, go to 'Advanced' and select 'Stop Single App Mode'
