Introduction to Push Notifications and Slack
In Carousel Cloud we have added the ability to push new and updated bulletins using Push Notifications. To set up and configure new Push Notifications you can head over to Configure > System > Push Notifications.
You will see a page similar to above if you have existing Push Notifications. If not, you will see a create button. These Push Notifications work similarly to External Authentications. They can be set up for the entire system to use. Once a Push Notification has been created you will be able to use one or more of your Push Notifications per zone (instructions to follow).
Creating a Slack Push Notification
When you go to create a Push Notification for Slack you will have to follow Slack’s instructions for Sending messages using Incoming Webhooks this will walk you through the setup on the Slack side of things and will give you a URL that you will need to enter on the following page.
You will need to select the Type, Slack in this case and a friendly name that your users will recognize. How Slack works is you will need a URL/Push Notification for each Slack Channel you would like to push to. It would be a good idea to name your Push Notification in a way that identifies the Slack Channel it will push to.
Configure Zone to Use Push Notifications
Once you have created a Push Notification and you want to use it you will need to add it to the Zone you would like to push Bulletins from. Navigate to the Edit page of your favorite Zone.
Under the General Settings, you will see a MultiSelect box that will allow you to add as many Push Notifications to this specific Zone as you would like. If your content needs to go to three different Slack Channels you will have three Push Notifications associated to your zone.
All non-dynamic Bulletins will now be pushed to your Slack Channels when they are edited or are turned on via schedule.
Disable Push Notification for a Specific Bulletin
If you have a situation where you don’t want one or more Bulletins in your Zone to be pushed to you selected Push Notifications you can opt-out on those specific Bulletins.
On the Extras tab of a Bulletin, you will find a toggle that will allow you to turn off Push Notifications for that specific Bulletin. All of the other Bulletins in the Zone will continue to be pushed as normal.
Best Practices and Limitations
Currently, Dynamic content will not be pushed to Push Notifications. You will only see standard, image, and video bulletins being pushed via Push Notifications.
Important note:
Slack image links are valid for 7 days before they expire.
