Automate Deployments Using Your Apple MDM

Using your Apple MDM, you can automate player activation, define a player type, select a channel to display, and set player tags that will be applied to an Apple TV, iPad, or Mac. These are only applied during the provisioning process, so any changes made in the Carousel user interface after provisioning will override these configurations.

The default behavior is for players to start displaying the Initial Channel as configured in Configure > Players > Settings > Initial Channel, with no tags assigned.

Configuration Directions

  1. Log in to Carousel Cloud and navigate to Configure > Players > Player Setup

  2. Then click on the desired Apple TV, iPad, or Mac player type

  1. As shown in the screenshot below:

    1. Choose your Apple MDM Provider

      1. If you are not using Jamf School or Jamf Pro, you most likely will need to use the Generic MDM configuration. However, the actual configuration you need to use will vary by MDM based on how it chooses to process app configurations, including things like formatting of the configuration and which variables your specific MDM uses. Consult your MDM app configuration documentation or MDM support team for clarification.

    2. Set the Player Type as either media (dedicated) or express player

    3. Choose the Provisioned Channel you want the players to display after activation

    4. Configure any Provisioned Tags you want the players to show in the Dedicated Players dashboard

Please Note: When you choose your preferred options from the available drop-down menus, the application configuration will automatically update itself to reflect the options you’ve selected

  1. Additional information for the specific entries of Server, UDID, Name, and Key, as noted in the app configuration above

    • Server - This is your Carousel Cloud URL, which will end in .carouselsignage.net. An example of a full Carousel Cloud URL would be yoursitename.carouselsignage.net

    • UDID - The UDID allows the Carousel Server to associate configuration information for the player after a factory reset of the player. However, if the UDID is not the same after a factory reset of the device, the Carousel Cloud Player app will not maintain its settings

    • Name - If a device name is present in your MDM, using the correct variable shown above, the device will be named the same in Carousel Cloud

    • Key - This is the token we use to securely attach your player to your instance of Carousel Cloud. When you click the Refresh Token button, this value is regenerated

  2. Now you can copy and paste the application configuration into your Apple MDM’s location for managing the Carousel Cloud Player app

  3. All newly provisioned players will use the configuration you have built during their provisioning process
