The most efficient way to use Tablets as Express Player Endpoints is if your organization uses an MDM solution such as Jamf or Google MDM for bulk device management that can distribute a website as a Progressive Web Application (PWA).
Supported Devices
Since the PWA is essentially displaying Carousel in a Web Browser, a multitude of devices are supported. The devices we test with are:
iPad running iOS 12+ (Safari)
Samsung running Android 8.2+ (Chrome)
Chrome Version 85.0.4183.133
Please note that Express players are an add on feature that may not be included with your subscription. Please contact your Customer Success Manager for more information.
Express Player Behavior
Express Players unlock your ability to include large numbers of devices in your Carousel Cloud ecosystem. Because of that, they have slightly different functionality than our Media Players. Express players do not support:
Uploaded Video Bulletins
Streaming Video Bulletins*
Interactive Bulletins
Video Block Content
*YouTube Bulletins are supported by Express Players for video
All other bulletin types are supported. Express Players will play your Carousel Content for ten minutes at a time before pausing its self. Simply press play to resume viewing. iPads/Safari will not autoplay YouTube Bulletins. The play button on the bulletin must be pressed before the bulletins dwell time elapses.
Viewing the Content
The URL for the channel can be found by clicking the How to Share button next to an express player in the Carousel Cloud UI under Configure > Players > Express Players
If your organization used an MDM to preload the PWA App, use that URL when configuring the PWA and deploy to your devices. Then simply click the Carousel logo on your home screen to launch it and enjoy!
You can also view it in a web browser using the URL or manually add Carousel to your home screen on your Tablet. The process for adding Carousel to your home screen is basically the same across platforms but some browsers differ slightly.
Safari on iPad
In Safari on an iPad, visit the URL then select the Share button, then select Add to Home Screen. Please note that you cannot add items to the home screen in Chrome on an iPad, only Safari. Also note that if you open the URL link directly from your email, it may open in Chrome(if installed) so be sure to copy and paste the URL into Safari.
Chrome
In Chrome on Android and other non-iPad devices, visit the url in Chrome, then press the three dots in the upper right, next to the address bar, then select Add to Home Screen. You may also be prompted to add the channel to the home screen at the bottom, either one works.
Once it has been added to your home screen, you simply click on it to launch your channel and enjoy!
