Overview
Carousel Cloud gives you the ability to easily Export, Import, and Duplicate your signage channels with the click of a button(or two). These concepts open up opportunities for Carousel Creatives everywhere to collaborate and share their design visions throughout the Carousel Community! It also makes scaling signage content across large organizations a breeze by putting you in the driver's seat and giving you the tools to expand your reach at your pace.
Getting Started
Channel Exporting, Importing, and Duplication all take place in the Channel Configuration Menu. To access the channel configuration menu, start by logging into your Carousel Cloud account, clicking on Your Username, and selecting Configure.*
*Please note, that you will need system configuration access to utilize this feature. See your Carousel administrator for more details.
Then Select Channels.
Exporting a Channel
Select the channel you wish to export from the channel list, then select the Export Button from the action button row.
This will generate and download a .car file. Once the export is finished your file will contain the following elements of the channel:
Name of the channel.
Channel layout, resolution, and subscriptions.
All zones in the layout with all configuration settings.
Full-Screen alert zones to which the channel is subscribed.
All templates from all zones.
All media from all zones.
All bulletins (including upcoming and expired) from all zones.
The following elements will not be included as they are configured outside of the channel settings:
External authentications (Exchange, PowerBI, and MDM authentications)
Private templates owned by a specific user in an exported zone will be exported, but only site admins will be able to access them when imported.
The .car file can now be imported into any Carousel Cloud account!
Importing a Channel
Follow the steps below to import a new custom designed channel from Carousel’s Creative services department, or from another Carousel Creative like you!
From the Channel Configuration menu, select the Import button.
Then either browse to or drag and drop the .car package that you wish to import. Once uploaded you can Name Your Channel. It will autofill the name it had when exported. Channel names must be unique, simply rename if prompted.
After choosing a channel name you will see a tabbed view all of the zones in the channel. You can then change names, edit tags, and choose whether you want to import the active and expired bulletins in the zone, or if you want the zone to start out fresh, with only the templates and media present.
Once the import is finished, it will appear in Carousel and can be assigned to your media and express players!
Duplicating Channels
Channel duplication is a must have for signage systems where you desire multiple copies of a channel layout and templates. For instance, if you manage signage for several different buildings or separate school district campuses, you can easily replicate your main channel for broad use but also maybe have one or two unique zones that can be site specific!
To duplicate channels in Carousel, navigate to the channel configuration menu and select the Duplicate Channel button from the action button row for the channel you wish to duplicate.
You will be prompted to select a new name for your channel because duplicate channel names are not allowed.
After you have entered a new channel name and selected next step, you will be taken to a preview of which zones will be duplicated. By default, your copies will share their zones with the channel that they are coming from. This is to allow you to use common zones across your channels.
If you want a new unique zone, select the option to Create a new zone for this channel. Then you will have the option to add a new name for the zone and add/modify its tags.
Next, choose whether you want to duplicate the active and expired bulletins in the zone or if you want the zone to start out fresh, with only the templates and media present.
After you have successfully duplicated your channel you will be prompted to choose if you would like to do it again, or if you are finished. If you want to duplicate again the changes that you just made are preserved to make it easier to duplicate your channel multiple times.
