Overview
Web and Interactive bulletins allow you to display website content* within Carousel Cloud. Here is an overview of the two bulletin types.
*Authenticated websites are not supported at this time
Web Bulletins:
-
Media players will first try to load the site live. It is possible that a player may not be able to load the site directly. For example, maybe you are using an Apple TV which does not have a web browser. Or if the media player can not reach the website over the network. In this case, Carousel will take a snapshot of the site that that will download to the player and refresh every 15 minutes. This snapshot can be delayed to give the site time to load. In the event that the site is unreachable by both the media player and Carousel, the bulletin will be skipped. Note that Web bulletins do not allow any user interaction such as scrolling, clicking, or filling in forms.
Interactive bulletins
-
Interactive bulletins are just like they sound. They are made for things such as touch screen kiosks and wayfinding maps which would be custom built for a specific purpose. They are supported on iPad and Brightsign media players. This bulletin type also provides an ‘Inactivity Timeout' which is the number of seconds since a user last interacted with the site. Once that time elapses the media player will refresh its browser, returning it to the original landing page.
In both bulletin types, there are a couple things to note.
-
The website you choose will display in the resolution of the zone that it resides in. Very large websites in small zones will be cut off. For example, if you need to scroll down a website in order to see it all, it may not display well in Carousel.
-
Media Player Performance is also a factor. If the media players you are using have a web browser but limited memory capabilities, it may have trouble displaying websites with a lot of animation or sites that are more taxing on the hardware. Be sure to design your custom website to run efficiently.
-
Apple TVs cannot display intranet (internal-only) sites, as Apple TVs only display snapshots, and snapshots cannot be taken for intranet sites.
Every website is different. There is no guarantee that any one site will display as desired on any given media player. Below you will find a matrix of supported media players and their expected behavior using Web and Interactive Bulletins
