Carousel Cloud Player Setup for Android

Goal: Install and configure the Carousel Cloud Player app on your Android device, and then activate the Android device as a player in the Carousel Cloud web interface

Supported Carousel Cloud Features

Please note:

  • Carousel Cloud supports:

    • The most current version of Android

    • All other fully supported versions of Android. Fully supported means at minimum, all required security updates are applied.

  • Since the specific Android device you are using will vary in device type (Android tablet, smart TV, etc.) and the device will have specific processing capabilities, we recommend that you:

    • Choose a commercial/professional line of Android device and thoroughly test the Carousel Cloud Player app, to ensure that all Carousel Cloud features you intend to use work as expected

    • Direct specific questions about hardware that meets the above criteria to your systems integrator or Carousel Cloud reseller to choose appropriate devices for your digital signage requirements

  • If you are using an Android MDM (mobile device management) to manage your Android devices, you can follow the standard app deployment steps for your MDM to deploy the Carousel Cloud Player app to your Android devices

  • The Carousel Cloud Player for Android app was extensively tested using the following partner devices:

    • Phillips Professional Displays

      • 43BDL3650Q - Signage Solutions Q-Line

      • 43BDL4650D - Signage Solutions D-Line

    • Sony Professional Displays

      • FW-55BZ40L - BRAVIA

      • FW-43BZ30L - Sony Pro

Overview of the Setup Process

  1. Install the Carousel Cloud Player App (Manually or with an Android MDM)

  2. Configure the Carousel Cloud Player App (Manually or with an Android MDM)

  3. Activate the Android device as a player in the Carousel Cloud web interface

  4. Done!

Manual Carousel Cloud Player App Setup Process

If you are not using a separate system to manage your Android devices, the first thing you will need to do is install the Carousel Cloud Player app manually on your device

To install the Carousel Cloud Player app manually:

  1. Directly on the Android device:

    1. Open the Google Play Store

    2. Search for Carousel Cloud Player

    3. Select the Carousel Cloud Player app and choose Install

  2. Through the Google Play Store webpage while also using an Android device that is logged in with the same Google account:

    1. Open the Google Play Store webpage

    2. Sign in to the same Google account on the webpage, and on your Android device

    3. On the Google Play Store webpage, search for Carousel Cloud Player

    4. On the Carousel Cloud Player app page, your other signed-in Android devices should be available in the installation drop-down menu as installation targets. Select the devices you want to install the app on, and then install the application.

  1. Some Android devices may require side-loading an APK file for installation. If this is the case for your device:

    1. Log in to Carousel Cloud

    2. Click on the gear in the upper-right corner

    3. Click on Configure

    4. Select Players

    5. Choose Player Setup

    6. Click on Android

    7. Click on the link for Carousel Android Player APK

    8. After downloading, follow your device manufacturer’s steps to complete installation

  1. Once the application has been installed, launch it on the device to display the player activation screen, as shown below

  1. Lastly, you will need to register the Android device as either a dedicated or express player in Carousel Cloud. Dedicated vs express player differences are explained in more detail in this article.

    1. To complete player activation, you can follow the steps under the heading Player Activation in this Carousel Cloud article

  2. Once the Android players are registered in Carousel Cloud, the selected players will begin to display your default cloud channel or the channel you specify during the registration process
