If you use a lot of large uploaded video files in Carousel Cloud, you may start to see performance issues start to creep up. This is for a couple of reasons. One is that the device you are using may not have enough local storage in order to cache your entire channel, forcing the player to delete and re-download videos every time the player cycles through bulletins in the zone. This is problematic because you will start to see excessive bandwidth utilization and overall network burden. The other is download speed. If the player can’t download all of the scheduled videos in time, you may see bulletins being skipped or partially played. This article will go over using Handbrake to change your video format to a much smaller file size without losing much quality.
Start by downloading handbrake using the link above and installing it on your computer. Once it has been installed launch it and do the following:
Select the video you would like to modify by clicking ‘Open Source’. Once it is selected, select ‘Presets’
Then select Devices, then Apple 1920p60 Surround
If you use 4k capable AppleTV’s or Brightsign players, use 2160p60 HVEC Surround
Now, select the destination for the export and press Start
Handbrake will then process the video. It will indicate when complete
As you can see in the example below, the file size has significantly decreased.
