Carousel Cloud and Jamf School
Carousel is a digital signage CMS allowing users to create and manage content on their screens. Carousel pushes content to iPad and Apple TV media players to display this content. Carousel Cloud Player App must be installed on each iPad or Apple TV displaying content. This is where Jamf comes in! With Jamf you can easily install and configure the Carousel Cloud Player App on all of your Apple devices.
This documentation assumes you have Jamf School, an Apple Volume Purchasing Program through Apple School Manager, and devices available in Automated MDM Enrollment.
Carousel Cloud Player is available for iPads running iOS 13 or later, as well as Apple TVs.
It is recommended your Apple TVs are running tvOS 13. This makes future updates to tvOS easier.
Create an API Key
Start by creating an API key. To do so, log into Jamf School and navigate to Organization, then Settings, then select API.
Then Select Add API Key. Name your API Key, select all access rights, and optionally add a description.
Find Network ID
Locate your network ID in Jamf School by selecting devices then enroll devices. Your network ID is the number at the end of the MDM Server URL displayed under the configurator enrollment options. For example:
Set Up External Authorization in Carousel
Log into Carousel Cloud and navigate to Configure, then select System, and External Authorizations.
Select Jamf School from the drop-down menu, fill in all of the fields with your information, and select Save.
Set Initial Channel and Find Jamf School Application Configuration
Log into Carousel and select Configure, Players, then AppleTV.
Select Jamf School from the drop-down menu as well as the channel you’d like for your Carousel Players to display upon initial startup. Copy the Jamf School Application Configuration to add to your Carousel Application in Jamf.
Add and Configure Carousel Application in Jamf School
Next, you will need to Create a device group for all your Carousel Players in Jamf Schools.
Add the Carousel Cloud Player Application by selecting apps, add app, add iOS app, then searching for Carousel Cloud player.
In the app settings select show advanced options and check the box to apply managed configuration Paste in the code from Carousel for the managed configuration.
Then, select the plus symbol below to add the device group you created. Click the gear button to edit settings and select the desired managed configuration.
By default, AppleTVs and iPads will register in Carousel Cloud with their device name (requires Cloud Player version 24+). You can modify the application configuration to use any application payload variable as described in this article.
Add Device Groups for Full Alerts in Carousel
First, in Jamf School, create a profile with the desired options (i.e. Single App Mode or disable "Allow Airplay Incoming Requests" under Restrictions) and add that profile to a new Device Group. It is important that you create a new Static Device Group for each zone you wish to trigger from Carousel. Since Carousel will manage which players are in that group, do not add any devices to the device group in Jamf School.
Next, you will edit each full alert zone and select the desired MDM device group under Alert Settings in order to apply profile settings to players during active full screen alerts. Log into Carousel and navigate to Configure, Zones, then select the edit icon to the desired full screen alert zone.
Under Alert Settings, select Force Monitor on When Alerts are Active. Then select the desired device group.
